I mentioned Lucy Ann Heaps. She was the sister of my GG Grandfather, Robert Heaps, featured above. As a littlle extra, I found out more information on Lucy Ann.
When she was 14, in 1871, she was boarding at the house of William and Eleanor Pendlebury - a brother and sister, at 37 Aquaduct Street - a Provision shop. William Pendlebury was a Provision Dealer. Lucy Ann was listed on the census as a Cotton Weaver.
The next time we meet her is in the 1881 Census, and she is married to William Woan, and has three children - Mary Ann 6, Robert 4, and Hannah 1. Their address is 25 James Street Preston.
William Woan, her husband, came from a large family. His parents were James (b.1826 in Preston) and Margaret (b.1828 in Preston). William was one of ten children born to James & Margaret. The children were all born in Preston. They were Norman b.1851, Grace b.1853, William b. 1855, James b.1857, Robert b.1859, Jane b.1861, Thomas b.1863, Joseph b.1866 and Richard b.1872. They lived at No.8 James Street at the time of the 1871 census.
By the 1891 census, Lucy Ann, William and family had moved to Stone Cottage, Fishwick. On the census page, this is listed as being next door to Fishwick Hall. The only reference I can find to Fishwick Hall is that it is a Golf Club ! Anyone with any more information, please get hold of me. By this time, the family had greatly increased. Lucy Ann, from being an orphan at an early age, to lodging with an elderly brother & sister when she was 14, now had 8 children - and her parents-in-law and a brother-in-law (James Woan) were living with her - 14 people in all at Stone Cottage, Fishwick.
Her children's names & D.O.B. were (all Woan's) Mary Ann b.1875, Robert b.1877, Hannah b.1880, James b.1882, Margaret b.1884, Lucy Ann b.1886, Jane b.1888, and William b.1891. Lucy Ann went on to have 2 more children - Thomas in 1894, and Lily in 1897 - 10 children in all. Ten years later, in 1901 (details from the 1901 census) ALL the children, apart from Robert, were STILL living at home ! I like to think it was such a happy home that no-one wanted to leave ! Mother- and father-in-law were still there too, at 75 and 73 years of age, as was brother-in-law James. I wonder where the Woan descendants are now ?
