Well...once again I didn't get much time to post during the week.
What a wonderful few days we've had. The weather was so mild towards the end of last week, and it continued right through to today. It's turned cold now though !
I had a great day yesterday in the garden, and almost got all the bulbs in. I spent a bit of money at the garden centre (as usual) on some Sweet Williams and Bellis. I got those in the ground, and also managed to get some bark chips on top of most of the beds. What a lovely smell from the bark. Gosh, I just sat on the ground and breathed deeply, imagining I was in a pine forest camping !! LOL. I really wish I was in a pine forest - I've spent many a happy camping trip falling asleep to the smell of pine bark.
I mentioned that we have a new puppy. He is a little Jack Russell, 4 months old, and he is a keen gardener ! I could have wrung his little neck yesterday - but of course I didn't. I was the perfect picture of patience as I tried to teach him NOT to take the bark chips and scatter them everywhere. He had a wonderful time. It really was funny to watch. But I am going to be firm with him, or I'll have no garden at all. When he first came home, he loved digging holes, but I think I have cured him of that. I keep saying NO - very firmly - and he hasn't tried to dig a hole for weeks. So maybe, if I persevere, he will get to know that he can't mess with the garden. He gets plenty of exercise (a couple of very long walks every day), and of course he gets a lot of playtime with the grandkids. They love him to excess !
Another very busy week faces me. I'll have the grandkids all week, of course - except Thurday. A very dear friend of my parents died last week. He had been ill for some time, and the funeral is in Crawley on Thursday. So we'll be taking my mother to the funeral. It will be a day trip as it's a couple of hours from us. Not a pleasant thought but it comes to all of us, I suppose.
On a more pleasant note, I'm really looking forward to Christmas. Yes...I know it's a bit early to start saying the C word, but it'll be here before we know it. I always start seriously thinking about it after Halloween and Bonfire night have passed. Gosh, this year has flown. So...I will be planning my Christmas menu and making shopping lists soon. How exciting !
