Coughs, Splutters and a little Rant !

Nearly 2 weeks since I last posted, but life seems hectic at the moment. And, as there's not much going on in the garden, I suppose it's time to talk of other things.

I seem to spend my days wiping noses (my own included) and dishing out cough mixture. We have all been attacked by a flu virus of some kind. It's affected all of us in the family, some worse than others. The grandchildren have been hard hit - the baby has been coughing for a week. The children have all had visits to the doctor - and the doctor agreed - yes, it's a virus (grrrrr). So apart from dosing with the usual cold and flu remedies, there's not much to be done.

The colder weather isn't helping much either ! It means that we are all confined - on top of one another in this small space I call my home. LOL. Really - we need a few days of bright sunshine (even if it is cold) - just to cheer everyone up a bit. I think I'll be ready to jump off a high building by February. No...it's not that bad. But I am affected by the lack of sunshine and light. I struggle with this every year, as so many others do.

I dashed off to the shops this morning for some urgent neccessities...food...and our butcher commented that he hadn't seen me for a couple of weeks. I replied that I've been very busy. He laughed loudly and said something to the effect that we ladies of leisure have it so good !!!!! It took all the strength in my jaw to keep it tightly clenched shut.

So...what is keeping me busy these days ??? I'll make a list :-

• a sweet, dear husband, who is in his second week of the dreaded virus, and who sighs, coughs, and splutters at every opportunity (but still manages to consume his meals with gusto - and even asks "what's for dessert ?")
• an aging mother, who has also been coughing etc. for the better part of 2 weeks, but who has consumed very little food during that period (I get quite worried that she doesn't eat and keep trying to tempt her)
• a 15 yr old grandson who always arrives home from school starving - and who promptly eats me out of house and home before 5.30pm every school day (when he goes home and eats his parents out of house and home)
• an 11 yr old grandson who has been hard hit by the virus, and has spent most of the last 2 weeks either in my bed, or on the sofa, fiddling with the TV remote control and changing the channels  approx. 100 times a day, and who is constantly arguing with
• a 3 yr old granddaughter, whose snotty nose I have wiped and creamed at least once an hour for the last 2 weeks, and who is rather weepy because she feels ill, and wants to be read to, constantly, because it make her better
• a 6 month old granddaughter - coughing, spluttering, sneezing, teething - bless her heart - through all that she always has a smile for her granny
• a 5 month old Jack Russell puppy, who can't understand why no-one feels like playing with him, and who barks in surprise every time someone sneezes
• and last, but not least, all the regular stuff like cleaning, washing, ironing, cooking - you know - the stuff that just seems to happen on it's own !!

By the time the grandchildren all go home in the evening, I collapse in a chair, and unfortunately, the internet is the last thing I think about. But we are slowly recovering, and will, I'm sure, be in better spirits soon. After all, Christmas is on it's way - and we can really do with some Christmas cheer.

I am amazed yo have had the time and patience to even post about this extremely busy and stressful time in your life !
You have a flare for writing .. I could picture everything you wrote about (minus the actual runny noses ? haha).
Hope things are much better by now for you .. don't give up on the garden .. a little bit here and there will really cheer you up !
