Which food choice is the right one ?
I know of very few subjects that the experts agree on. Food is one of the worst I think. I have now seen on the news that there is a claim that high protein diets are as dangerous as smoking. Some of the so-called experts have in the past said that a high protein diet was one of the best ways to lose fat. Now it is dangerous. I have read that salt is absolutely necessary and I have also read that salt is one of the worst things you can have in your food. Who is right?????
We are basically all the same but the way our bodies will process food is slightly different. Our body’s metabolism varies from person to person. Some people can eat a full plate of food 3 times a day and not gain weight and another person will gain eating half the amount.
I have adopted the common sense approach. I think the key is to understand your own body. One fact we cannot change is that if you put in more then you use you will gain weight. I will eat salt when I feel like having salt on my food. I think my body tells me what I need. I have seen animals eating dirt because they need certain minerals from the soil. I know the other day I made a protein shake and I could taste the salt in the peanut butter yet there are times when I will sprinkle salt over my food quite liberally and hardly taste it.
If you adopt a common sense approach to eating you will probably eat right for you. I like to eat smaller balanced meals throughout the day. That means protein and complex carbohydrates for every meal and some added vegetables with a few meals. I know that when I eat this way and I train properly I seem to burn fat easily and I feel amazing. I have extra energy and I am almost always in a good mood.
When I think back to my grandfather who was a giant of a man and lived to the age of 92, this is the way he ate. He lived on a farm and ate simple wholesome food that he grew. There was no junk food or candy (sweets) and when he wanted something sweet he had honey or ate some fruit from his orchard. We all seem to instinctively know when we look at food what is good for us and what is not. Be true to you and stand by your gut feel. It is too easy to give in to your desires and eat something that is not good for you but you think tastes nice.
