How to train and build muscles fast - heavy or light weights ?
This topic is one that is open to a lot of discussion. There are unlimited theories as to which is the best. There are claims that if you do not work heavy you cannot build muscle. If you work light then you are doing more of an aerobic exercise and so you definitely cannot build muscle. There are others who claim if you work heavy it is for strength training and only lighter weight will build muscle. So which one is it?
Well, I am certainly not going to help much because I am not going to say one way or the other. I can only tell you what I have tried and found has worked for me.
I have worked heavy and I have found that I really battle to feel a pump of any sort. The muscles get fatigued and so that must mean that I have worked them hard and done them a lot of good. I have found that I do build doing this kind of training.
I have trained light. Let's define light. To keep it simple I have used random figures. If you can bench press 100lbs and consider this to be very heavy then light would be around 50-60lbs. Very light would be 30lbs. I have found that using light weights I get a much better pump and if done fairly slowly I find that I build quickly. I am also much happier with my training.
It really is up to you. The purpose of using weights is to make the muscles adapt to hard work. If you get fatigued doing heavy and only 5 reps, or you get fatigued doing light weights with 8-12 reps, I personally cannot see the difference. I think the only difference will be in the time you train. Test for yourself and never let others confuse you as to what is right for you.
